Dictator Museveni is set to visit National Parks in an effort to boost tourism in Uganda. The country has been losing precious revenue from the sector since the beginning a violent election that led to thousand killed and arbitrarily detained in secret prisons.

Tourism, for the last 36 years, suffered from mismanagement as all sectors in Uganda but what hurts it most is the reputation the country has as one of the most brutal dictatorship on the planet. Foreigners and nationals alike will be on the floor laughing at the despot’s attempt to revive tourism in a country infamous for its brutal tyranny. A Ugandan commented with, “He [Museveni] should start his tour in a drone at CMI Mbuya,” the brave soul said, “He will understand why no one wants to visit Uganda.”

While most countries battle with post-Covid tourism, Uganda has to fight with its tarnished image as an unsafe destination. Uganda is one of the few countries where tourists face the risk of kidnapping and potential death for unpaid ransoms from security operatives. Most embassies have security advisory on Uganda and local tourism is not spared either; locals know what happens in parks under the cover of darkness. Since January 2019, security operatives dump lifeless bodies of opposition members kidnapped in the violent crackdown that followed rigged elections.

Significantly, even for those that would brave the security threat, there are no infrastructures to facilitate the “Ugandan experience”. The dismal states of our roads, the constant power cuts and the difficulty of travel with corrupt official swindling traveler at the airport, make tourism impossible in Uganda.

Above all, if Museveni needs to travel with around 100 heavily armed guards, then definitely Uganda is NOT safe.
