The EU’s human rights chief on Wednesday voiced concern about the torture of detainees in Uganda and other rights abuses, calling on tyrant Yoweri Museveni to ensure there is action to stop the practices, not just empty words.

Dictator Museveni has tortured, abducted, and disappeared Ugandans, especially the opposition over three decades. Cases of disappearance and killings of the member of the opposition in Uganda have been there for so long and it is not a coincidence that they are all held hostage in the so-called safe houses.

Victims of senile Museveni’s torture and inhumane treatment testify of near-death experiences, where their fingernails got pulled out, burned their bodies with an iron, and got sexually assaulted.

But even if Eamon Gilmore expressed his concern about people being tortured in detention, it is a necessity to bring to account those who have been responsible for torture. Long-suffering Ugandans have been tortured, jailed illegally, killed in such great numbers, they wonder what curse befell them!

But more and more outsiders are seeing the real bloodthirsty despot that has ruled Uganda with an iron fist since 1986. Poor oppressed Ugandans should not give up on raising the alarm however.

Sooner or later the tyrant will be made answerable for his crimes.
