Reliable information from credible sources in Kampala have it that yesterday, armed men in plain clothes raided the house of one Modest Rutagengwa – in the middle of a family function – seized some belongings, and engaged him in a lengthy conversation.
Rutagengwa is a Ugandan with Rwandan roots and is a prosperous businessman that runs a chain of businesses in Kampala.
According to a source that witnessed the incident, Rutagengwa’s family had organized a function in honor of his late brother, who passed away last month. The function started with a requiem mass, and was graced by people from all walks of life. Among the invitees were Rutagengwa’s relatives from Rwanda, as well as friends from his community in Ugandan.
It was reported that after cordoning off the area, the security personnel stormed Rutagengwa’s house, caused some commotion, and subjected him to some kind of interrogations and confiscated some of his belongings.
Sources further revealed that CMI was acting on alleged reports that “Rutagengwa had invited quite a number of “not so common personalities” and therefore they wanted to find out “the motive that brings them so close.”
According to sources however, CMI men after some hours allowed Rutagengwa to proceed with the function.
This blog has equally established that Rutagengwa has been under a close surveillance for a range of issues and nobody knows whether he or some of his relatives would not be summoned anytime soon for further questioning.
This incident, among other things raised concern whether the armed men might take the two countries back to previous bad relations of two years ago, that appear to have been overcome.
Only time will tell what the latest events mean.
