On the dawn of 25th of this month, Al Shabaab terrorists raided a UPDF base in Bula Mareer town in Somalia, killed hundreds of soldiers and ransacking the entire base. Criminal Museveni must be held accountable.
It is a known fact that very many men and women in uniforms in Ugandan forces are unhappy on the way the regime of the ruthless dictator has been treating them. That can negatively impact combat readiness.
UPDF troops that serve in various missions away, like the contingents in Somalia, have been expressing discontent on salary delays that can go up to 12 months, stipends and other forms of beneficiaries that are never given to them for greedy purposes of despot Museveni.
From the time soldiers started to shoot each other in Baracks and outside, to the moment they shoot those that they are supposed to protect, like the shooting incident of Col (Rtd) Charles Engola okello, the morale of UPDF members have never been so down. Blame it all on one and only, criminal despot Museveni, the bloody egocentric ruler who only cares about himself.
Somalia became a key element in despot Museveni’s calculations for political survival when a heavy deployment of Ugandan army in Congo could no longer be justifiable, especially in light of the atrocities it had committed there and the plundering of mineral resources it was engaged in.
At the time, Museveni envisioned Somalia as a tool that would alternatively or simultaneously serve as a shield against international scrutiny for his crimes and a vehicle for self-enrichment and entrenchment in power.
It is no surprise that for all these reasons and more, Museveni had repeatedly sabotaged efforts to find sustainable solutions for Somalia, which would render Uganda’s presence in that country and Museveni’s utility to donors obsolete. The longer he stays the more damages he causes.
Rest in Peace to soldiers whose lives were cut down by terrorists in Somalia but narcissistic despot Museveni is to be blamed.
