It is supposedly Heroes’ Day in Uganda. The bloody regime of criminal despot Museveni as usual will waste national resources in the name of celebrating the day. But one simple question lingers, what is there to celebrate?
Just like Tarehe Sita Day, Uganda’s national heroes’ day is observed every 9th of June and is marked in commemoration of the first NRA soldiers that were executed at Kikandwa, Luweero, by the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) in 1981. It was a few months after dictator Museveni launched the war against Milton Obote’s government.
The fifteen fighters that died in Kikandwa and Luweero had been duped by criminal Museveni into thinking they were dying for a greater cause, but what befell Uganda under the tyrant has been truly appalling. Ugandans have suffered worse than under the previous regimes. All the aspirations for a new Uganda vanished in thin air as soon as criminal Museveni assumed power.
It is a total sham to honor the brave soldiers who died in Luweero when today, in the same area, children study in overcrowded classes sitting on bare soil and dusty floors. It is equally disparaging to observe Heroes’ Day when hospitals in Kikandwa have no medicines, and doctors are always on strike due to hunger and poor pay.
There is nothing to celebrate on Heroes’ Day when every dream of every Ugandan has been crushed by the current bloody regime of criminal despot Museveni- the selfish, greedy, corrupt, and bloody-thirsty dictator who plunged Uganda into an abyss of hopelessness to serve his interests.
As a former NRA Kadogo, I cannot help but shed a tear of agony and pain, seeing many colleagues who died fighting for a new Uganda. Little did they know what awaited. I wish I could tell them that the then Commander Museveni after assuming power, became a monster worse than Amin and Obote combined.
