If criminal despot Museveni was wise enough, or at the very least a half visionary leader, he would honor some of his regional promises. Instead, his empty promises on trades with EAC countries have been hurting Uganda’s economy like never before.
Ugandan traders to Burundi for example are paying double the price of exports following Burundi’s closure of the border with Rwanda. Museveni’s promised roads to Burundi were a big lie, and that puts Uganda’s exports to Burundi in serious jeopardy. Cargo transporters now have to foot a huge amount of cost to carry goods to Burundi using the Tanzania route.
Since 2021, the deceitful regime of criminal despot Museveni has been lying that they were “finalizing plans to build a road bypassing Rwanda to Bujumbura”. But that is just hot air!
A Ugandan trader transporting goods to Burundi who was paying US$ 3000 per 30 tones is now paying 4000, on the same goods.
In a similar fate, a number of Ugandan traders to DRC opted for alternative markets due to ongoing insecurities (from which despot Museveni has a hand), the road construction projects promised by ruler of Uganda never happened despite highly touted campaigns from the dictator’s corrupt regime.
The 223 Kms routes which were supposed to connect the far end of Eastern DRC to different border towns of Uganda, specifically, Beni-Mpondwe; Goma-Rutshuru-Bunagana and Beni and Butemo remain elephant projects despite its commission back in 2021. Sources conversant with the project from Uganda say it was a hot air as despot Museveni’s government never earmarked any fund to commence the plans.
Ugandans continue to foot a high price of fuel, despite Museveni’s promises to reduce the cost through negotiations with Kenya. Despot Museveni had begged Kenyans to use their pipeline to transport its fuel from the port of Mombasa directly to the capital, Kampala, but Kenya rejected the request saying that Uganda was not clear how the two countries would benefit. They sensed danger and acted before.
Knowing his country is a landlocked with challenges of transiting goods especially through roads, the least criminal corrupt Museveni would do is to humble down and honor his promises to sustain his home economy. But it is a well-known fact that Museveni only pledges empty promises that he takes rides on to pocket whatever hefty amounts he signed for. He is a master salesman of “air.”
