The recent appointment of Justice Catherine Bamugemereire has shown a number of women in Museveni’s Uganda are not employed on merit rather nepotism and favoritism. It is not what you know in Uganda it has always been about who you know.

Bamugemereire was appointed Justice at the Supreme Court after helping Museveni in mass land grabbing. She was not the lightest of the bulb, her colleagues say. Having been the land commission chairperson Bamugemereire is one of the few people that supported criminal despot Museveni acquire land of innocent Ugandans by force. 

During the Bamugemereire tenure at the land commission, she was the center of high-profile disputes, intrigues and malice mostly because she was defending bloody interests of tyrant Museveni. After completing that ignoble task, she has now been served with a position at the Supreme Court, she will continue serve the evil ruler from there!

Last year’s appointment of Jennifer Bamuturaki as the CEO of Uganda airlines sparked a hit debate at COSASE (a parliamentary scrutiny committee), it was later proved she was amateurish in the profession. In a corruption free country, not criminal despot Museveni’s Cassava Republic, Jennifer Bamuturaki would be behind bars. 

Not only is Bamuturaki strikingly incompetent to run an airline, she is arrogant and corrupt to the tooth. The incompetent CEO whose take home salary is more than Ugx100 million, for example was questioned on why she hired an advertising firm “Abbavater Group Limited,” to do branding and marketing of the loss-making airline at the full cost of $540,000 (about Ugx 2.067 billion) without opening the process to a competitive bidding process, but she arrogantly told parliamentarians that she owes nobody any explanation. 

Another striking example showing how Museveni runs Uganda as a personal kiosk was the appointment of Marcella Karekye as the CEO of Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC) in 2021. Karekye was formerly the editor of Fountain Publishers, one of the regime’s PR firms and is said to be a close friend to Natasha Karugire the daughter of the dictator. 

Since her appointment Karekye runs a team of many people that is in charge of the dictator’s propaganda. Recent investigations evidenced that GCIC run a network of fake social media accounts in Uganda. Under false identities which spread pro-government messaging and target critics with threats.

It will take time for anyone in Uganda to serve their country without having to go to bed with the appointing authority, serving bloody interests or being a mere discussion in the Kitchen. To say that Uganda is a dysfunctional state is an understatement, the government under criminal despot Museveni has gone to the dogs and needs an overhaul change to regain credibility.
